I think I can speak for everyone right now when I say that life has been crazy. Just in 2020 alone, we’ve all been hit with a whirlwind of events. From celebrity deaths, to a global pandemic that has basically put everyone’s lives at pause.
I know, the topic of COVID-19 has been everywhere. It’s talked about endlessly in the media. It has impacted businesses left and right. People are working from home, or not working at all. Small businesses are struggling to stay afloat. This deadly virus is unseen but changing lives every minute that passes.
While I’ve had time to grasp the situation and accept that the world has come to this, I know many others have yet to do the same. As a wedding photographer, my business has been put on a semi-hold. I’ve had photoshoots and weddings postponed. I’m getting to the point where I miss shooting so much that I have dreams about doing photoshoots. And although I cannot and will not leave my house to work, there are things that can be done to help your business continue to thrive.
Right now, we have so much time for the things that we said we didn’t have time for. Remember that course you bought but never finished? Now is the time to finish it. Keep your knowledge growing. I’ve invested in a handful of photography related courses, but my favorite by far is Hustle & Flow with the Hons. Brittani and Jon are amazing and their Hustle & Flow Course is perfect for any entrepreneur.
With the talk of education, I also wanted to take a moment to thank Skillshare for their support. Skillshare is a learning and education program with thousands of courses. I recently took a digital painting class for fun and let me tell ya, my paintings have gotten so much better! I also took an SEO course and an Etsy course. ! For me, it’s my podcast. My first 4 episodes were recorded in November and December of LAST YEAR! I know. Crazy. I was in it and ready, but life got in the way and it was thrown to the back burner.
Now is the chance to tackle those projects and get. It. Done. Remember those blogs that you said you’d do? DO IT NOW!
Times are scary right now, and it is so important to think about how you’re doing mentally. You don’t want this to get in the way of business.
Meditate everyday, write about what’s going on, text a friend or a family member. If you need someone to talk to, I highly recommend reaching out to the team of Pure Purpose. We’re always here to listen. Feel free to join our private Facebook group where you’ll have access to all of the board members!
It’s going to be tough considering we’re all on lockdown. But this gives you a chance to get creative! I set up a small “studio” using a white sheet as a backdrop to get product shots for KSwiss. I also set up a mini studio and practiced food photography. Use this time to let people in and show them your Work From Home life. Go into your backyard and take some photos for your next IG post or blog. Update your headshots! If you’re not a photographer, now is the perfect time to batch work posts for your business. Keep them coming even though business may be at a halt right now.
We’re all going through a pandemic right now. This is the perfect time to connect with others. Reach out to those in your field and send them a message. Introduce yourself. Build connections and relationships! Years from now, we will remember who was there for us during this time.
