If you are traveling Utah for your elopement or wedding, you might want to consider flying into Las Vegas rather than Salt Lake City. The drive from Salt Lake City to Zion is about 4-5 hours. You can also fly into Las Vegas at McCarran International Airport and drive about 2.5 hours. There are a bunch of rentals near Zion National Park. Look for a rental around Hurricane/St. George area. The drive to Zion is about 30-40 minutes from there. My team and I stayed at a beautiful house in La Verkin.
COME PREPARED WITH THE RIGHT CLOTHING!
Utah gets really hot in the summers and cold in the winter! Even in Southern Utah. Make sure you come prepared with clothes that will keep you comfortable during that season! We shot during winter, so during down time and as we were setting up shots, we had our bride covered up in a coat to stay warm. If you’ll be hiking, consider changing into your wedding attire when you get to the location. Consider purchasing some cute white sneakers to also wear in addition to your heels.
PLAN YOUR LOCATIONS… OR BE ADVENTUROUS AND JUST DRIVE AROUND
If you plan on doing one of the many hikes that Zion National Park has, definitely plan accordingly. But, there is nothing wrong with just driving around until you find a spot that you like. There are a lot of areas where you can pull off and park on the side. It really depends on your schedule and how different you want your photos to be.
BE AWARE OF PARK FEES
If you plan on having your ceremony in the park, a permit is required and there are only a few permitted locations. However, there are spots not on park grounds that are just as beautiful. It’s possible to do your ceremony off park grounds and then go to the park for your photos.
