Alyssa and Michael had a beautiful destination wedding on Maui. After months of planning, they were joined by their closest family and friends as they became one.
Alyssa and Michael met through Basketball. Alyssa is from California and Michael is an island boy from O’ahu. After meeting, Michael packed his bags and moved across the ocean to join Alyssa in Northern California.
As Alyssa got dolled up for the wedding, I was able to chat with her lovely bridesmaids. One thing that I love about this wedding is how nontraditional it was. There was no maid of honor or best man. Just simple bridesmaids and groomsmen. (side note – Brandon and I plan on having a nontraditional wedding, as well!)
The ceremony and reception was held in Makawao at the Hui No’eau Visual Arts Center. Alyssa and Michael only saw the venue via FaceTime during the wedding planning! With the help of Marina from Bustle Events, Alyssa and Michael were able to plan their wedding while being thousands of miles away.
Alyssa and Michael ditched the wedding cake and instead had their favorite sweets – popsicles, cookies, and donuts. They did, however, have a birthday cake for Alyssa’s niece! Instead of having a best man and maid of honor speech, all groomsmen shared some stories and laughs for everyone to hear. One of Alyssa’s bridesmaid and Alyssa’s brother shared some laughs, as well. Towards the end of the night, this Bay Area family got down on the dance floor… And yes – so did I!
